Taylor welcomes Narellan Road night works

Tuesday, 01 November 2016

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says night works on Stage 2 of the $114 million Narellan Road upgrade will minimise impacts on motorists.

“As part of this important project to reduce congestion, improve safety and travel times, the intersection at Narellan Road and Camden Valley Way will be upgraded,” Mr Taylor said.

“This work will include the upgrading of traffic lights, removing vegetation, installing drainage, relocating underground facilities and realigning the Doncaster Avenue cul-de-sac.

“There will also be work to upgrade intersections, and to install and relocate temporary concrete barriers on Narellan Road at the M31 Hume Motorway.

“I am pleased to say that much of this work will be carried out at night, to minimise the impact on motorists and to ensure that the overall upgrade of this critical transport link is completed on time.

“I am hearing people’s concerns that the roadworks have been affecting their commute times and I welcome the NSW Roads and Maritime Services’ announcement to work at times when the road is used least.”

Night work started on Monday, 31 October and will continue through to Friday, 23 December 2016 between the hours of 8pm and 5am (excluding weekends and weather permitting).

Work will also take place during the standard construction hours from 7am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

Roads and Maritime Services began building Stage 2 of the Narellan Road upgrade (a 5.2km section from the M31 Hume Motorway to Camden Valley Way, and from the TAFE/Western Sydney University access road to Blaxland Road, Campbelltown) in January 2016 and expect to finish by mid-2018.

Mr Taylor said the Federal Government was delivering for the people of Greater Western Sydney.

“We are seeing a surge in jobs growth on the back of the Australian and NSW governments’ $3.6 billion infrastructure investment in the region” he said.

“The latest report card on the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan shows that in the past 12 months, work on major road projects is generating more than $30 million worth of contracts for Western Sydney suppliers and contractors.”

Mr Taylor said the upgrading of The Northern Road, Narellan Road and Bringelly Road will also enable major new housing developments in these areas.

“We know that if we want to have more affordable, more accessible housing, we need more homes and that’s what we’re getting around here with these major new infrastructure developments,” he said.

“Of enormous importance to greater Camden is the $114 million Narellan Road upgrade, jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments, which will widen the road to six lanes, remove two serious bottlenecks and install traffic lights to improve peak hour traffic flow.”
