Werombi business growing on the back of new mobile coverage

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says the expansion of local businesses is proof the Coalition's infrastructure and small business focus is delivering for the local economy.

Jeff and Germaine Borg at Choice Seedlings at Werombi, who supply buyers across Australia, were considering moving out of the area because of their poor mobile phone reception.

“I lobbied hard for better mobile coverage and secured funding for four towers in the Wollondilly area – at Werombi, Nattai, Mount Hunter and Buxton. The Werombi tower was switched on a couple of months ago, the first in Hume,” Angus Taylor said.

“The Borgs are now growing their business and considering employing additional staff in the warmer months. They say they have perfect mobile reception at their workplace which has changed their outlook and significantly increased the potential of their business.”

Germaine Borg said reliable telecommunications was not a luxury, it was a necessity.

“Reception at my workplace is fantastic. We have 4 out of 5 bars of reception. Before the tower was installed we couldn’t use our phones in the nursery.

“With our focus on strong business relationships, reliable telecommunications is the key. We have customers all over Australia, we need to be able to communicate with them whether we are in the nursery loading their order, whether we are in the shed completing a specification form or if we are in the office planning their sowing schedule,” she said.

Mr Taylor said by investing in important infrastructure, such as mobile reception and internet coverage, the Government was making it easier for local businesses to grow.

“This is a strong focus of mine, to deliver jobs and growth for our local communities.”
