Two major infrastructure projects unveiled for Goulburn district

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor and Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Geoff Kettle unveiled two major infrastructure projects for the Goulburn district on Tuesday.

The new concrete Kippilaw Bridge on the Gurrundah Road, funded jointly by the Federal Government and Council ($937,000 each), will replace a two lane timber bridge. The project includes realignment of Gurrundah Road and raising the height of the bridge to reduce the risk of flooding.

Mayor Geoff Kettle said: “This upgrade is long overdue and fantastic news for people living in the Kippilaw area. I am sure many local graziers and livestock transporters will be pleased to begin using the new bridge, and I’d like to thank Angus and the Federal Government for their continuing support of the Goulburn Mulwaree region.”

The Bridges Renewal Program, through rounds one and two, is delivering nearly $9 million for 11 projects in Hume.

The Mayor also joined Mr Taylor and Member for Goulburn Pru Goward at Windellama to witness the switching on of a new mobile phone tower for the community, the second new mobile tower switched on in Hume (the first at Werombi).

The tower at Windellama will be one of three towers in the surrounding area – others will be located at Mayfield and Nerriga – which are expected to extend coverage to a number of local communities including Bungonia, Bungonia National Park, Windellama, Oallen, Lower Boro, Boro Creek Valley and parts of Goulburn. Other towers in the broader Goulburn region will be built at Golspie and Tarlo.

Angus Taylor said unprecedented Federal infrastructure investment in the local area was delivering real benefits.

“Goulburn Mulwaree is benefitting from one of the biggest infrastructure investment programmes in Australia’s history. Millions of dollars through initiatives such as the Bridges Renewal Program, Road Black Spot Program, Mobile Blackspot program, National Stronger Regions Fund and Roads to Recovery program mean a stronger economic future for all of us. Improved infrastructure delivers more jobs, safer services and more efficient and effective services."
