Submissions invited for 20 Million Trees Programme
9 July 2014
Federal Member for Hume has invited interested local land managers and community groups to get involved in the rollout of the 20 Million Trees Programme.
“The 20 Million Trees Programme aims to re-establish green corridors, increase and improve the habitats of our threatened species and create greener spaces to improve the liveability of our communities,” Mr Taylor said. “The key goal is to plant 20 million trees by 2020.
“The programme will be implemented in two streams. Firstly, competitive grants will be offered to land managers and local community groups and then a tender process will be conducted for larger scale service providers.
“There are opportunities in Hume for large-scale revegetation projects to be delivered on the ground. The Government is now inviting submissions from interested parties on how best to deliver large-scale tree planting to achieve real environmental outcomes and engage local communities.
“Suitable service providers are encouraged to take this opportunity to make a difference to the environment. Submissions received through the Request for Information process will inform a subsequent Request for Tender process that will invite potential delivery partners to apply to become a 20 Million Trees Service Provider.
“The Government has committed $50 million over four years to the 20 Million Trees Programme with funding to commence from 2014-15.”
