Stronger Communities Grants continue to flow

From life-saving defibrillators to new high jump mats, more of Hume’s sporting clubs and community groups are able to carry out upgrades or purchase new equipment under the Coalition’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP).

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said 14 local organisations have so far succeeded in winning a grant under Round 3 of the SCP.

“This funding goes to the heart of our region’s grass-roots organisations, delivering a boost for projects often run by volunteers and relied upon by local communities,” he said.

The Round 3 recipients include:

  • Boorowa Hostel Inc ($9420) for solar panels for Burrowa House;
  • Dalton Public Hall Reserve Trust ($2500) for improvement of access to hall;
  • Upper Lachlan Shire Council ($20,000) for Clifton Park toilet block;
  • Goulburn Mulwaree  Athletics  Inc  ($3320) for new regulation  high jump mats;
  • Goulburn High School P & C ($13,560) for establishing a robotics league;
  • The Oaks Historical Society Inc ($15,000) for upgrade of kitchen facilities;
  • The Oaks Horse and Pony Club ($3000) for a portable dressage arena, equipment;
  • Picton-Thirlmere-Bargo RSL Sub-Branch ($10,250) for new outdoor kitchen facility;
  • Riding for Disabled Association (NSW) Wollondilly Group ($7330) for new storage facility and equipment;
  • Wollondilly Shire Council ($20,000) for upgrade to Bargo Skate Park;
  • Camden Rugby Union Club Inc ($12,000) for replacement tractor for maintenance and development of outer playing fields;
  • The Camden Show Society Inc ($8000) for upgrade of public address system;
  • Camden Junior Rugby League Football Club Inc ($2500) for purchase of Automated External Defibrillator and repairs to communications tower, and,
  • Goulburn Mulwaree Council ($20,000) for installation of picnic/BBQ area in Victoria Park adjoining new adventure playground.

Hume’s sporting clubs and community groups have shared in more than $430,000 under the the Stronger Communities Programme – including more than $146,000 under Round 3.

“One of the fantastic things about this grant programme is that many local communities throughout the electorate are benefitting,” Mr Taylor said.

“Investing in community infrastructure like sporting facilities, local parks, museums and sheds is so important because we all have connections to the services they provide.”
