This Government is strongly committed to fairness and supporting the vulnerable in the community. This is particularly important in healthcare.

We also know we need a health system that's affordable and sustainable. The health planning we’re undertaking is for a long time into the future, not just short term.

I firmly believe that those who can afford to contribute to the costs of a visit to the doctor, should do so (and that includes me). It is also crucial that we protect those patients who are on concessions.

The new Health Minister Sussan Ley has started a wide ranging consultation with the community, the medical profession and the broader health sector over the Medicare Benefits Schedule.

I am personally committed to providing input to the Minister to make sure we get these important policies right.
