Praise for Taylor's efforts bringing NBN to Hume

Wednesday, 03 February 2016

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor was congratulated in Question Time today for his “extremely impressive” work to bring the NBN to Hume.

With optic fibre currently being laid in Goulburn, Bundanoon, The Oaks and Oakdale and in coming weeks Bargo, Tahmoor and Picton, Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government Paul Fletcher praised Mr Taylor’s work for his constituents.

“In Goulburn for example, the biggest centre, some 10,000 premises are to be connected to the Fibre To The Node Network…under the three year rollout plan 42,000 premises in Hume will get Fibre To The Node or fixed wireless. “It is the Coalition which understands the rural and regional telecommunications needs of this country. It is the Coalition which is delivering,” Mr Fletcher said.

Mr Taylor said in addition to optic fibre being laid in a number of local towns, new fixed wireless towers had also been switched on in Hume.

“Towers in north Yass, at Mt Bowning and Mt Manton have all gone live and nearby residents will now be able to access fast reliable internet via the NBN. I encourage residents to contact service providers if they are keen to get connected.

“This will be a tremendous year for telecommunications in Hume. Many new NBN services - fixed line and fixed wireless - will be activated – and the major telco companies are switching on 4GX and 4G small cell technology in a number of locations across the electorate, ahead of the NBN.

“New satellite internet will also be available in coming months and I will be keeping the community closely informed about how these services will be accessible.”
