Praise for Boorowa Preschool in Parliament
Federal Member for Hume has praised the Boorowa Preschool Committee for its determined efforts in seeking funding for a long day care service.
In a speech to parliament today (Monday 20 October), Mr Taylor said the committee had already taken further steps toward employing an architect, since the recent announcement of a $50,000 Federal Government grant to start the design process.
“I’ve been able to visit Boorowa Preschool recently and have heard first hand from committee President Sarah Rose on the first steps.
“The committee is ready to appoint an architect. The overall rebuild, to almost triple the size of existing facilities, is estimated at approximately $600 thousand dollars and will involve converting the current preschool building into a facility for babies - and adding additional rooms for 2 to 3 year olds and older children,” Mr Taylor said.
“There are fewer and fewer communities these days which don’t have some kind of access to long day child care services. Boorowa in my electorate is one.
“It’s well known that families with access to long day care have more choice…which is why the Federal Government is so keen on supporting the child care sector and supporting regional families like those in my electorate of Hume.
“With the funding grant recently approved under the Long Day Care Capital Funding Exceptional Circumstances Grant programme, the preschool will be able to move forward with planning and design - and engage the services of an architect.
“I congratulate the parent committee for its determination in seeing the capital works funding application through to approval.”
