A new beginning for Casburn Park Wingello - Tuesday 2nd July 2024

Friday, 05 July 2024

The community of Wingello is set to benefit from a new upgrade at Casburn Park.

The project has been made possible thanks to a $2.5 million dollar grant from the Australian and NSW Governments through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.

It features the Wingecarribee Shire's first purpose-built pump track along with a new amenities block, a fire truck play station, picnic areas, a flying fox, revamped climbing equipment.

Wingello was devastated by the Black Summer Bushfires when the Currowan Bushfire jumped the Shoalhaven River and formed the Morton Bushfire.

At last Friday’s official opening, Federal Member for Hume and Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor paid tribute to everyone who helped save the vast majority of the village.

“Who can forget those days in early January 2020, when we saw the extraordinary tragedy that unfolded in Wingello,” Mr. Taylor said.

“No one could’ve imagined how quickly that fire swept through and the damage it would do.

“I had the opportunity to meet with Rural Fire Service volunteers in the days following the fire.

“Many hadn’t slept for days.

“Whilst we were blessed to have no loss of life, we saw enormous damage, enormous heartache, and extraordinary sacrifice.

“This new facility is now a great addition to a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.”
