MRI Medicare rebate secured for Goulburn Hospital
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has welcomed news that the 2022/23 Federal Budget will provide full Medicare funding for an MRI in Goulburn.
$296.5 million will deliver improvements in regional, rural and remote health as part of the 10-Year Stronger Rural Health Strategy, including $66 million to deregulate access to Medicare-funded Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services in MMM 2–7 areas, including Goulburn.
“I know that at the moment, Goulburn residents have to travel as far as Canberra or Bowral for imaging to detect traumatic brain injuries, strokes, dementia, infections and tumours,” Mr Taylor said.
“That’s why I fought for and have now secured access to bulk-billed MRIs for Goulburn.
“There is a site available in Goulburn Hospital to build the MRI. The NSW Government is currently going through that tender process now, and this funding will mean that patients will have access to a full rebate through Medicare.”
The Coalition Government is investing in a stronger health system as part of our plan for a stronger future through a record $132 billion in 2022–23.
