Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has welcomed the activation of fixed wireless towers at Mount Hunter, Werombi and Theresa Park which will connect residents to fast, affordable broadband.

Mr Taylor said about 570 households would benefit directly from these fixed-wireless towers and residents could now sign up for plans with their preferred retail provider.

“Fixed wireless is the success story of the regional nbn roll out and has the highest satisfaction rating on the nbn, offering speeds of up to 50 megabits a second download and 20 megabits a second upload,” he said.

“This technology helps spur local businesses who employ local people.

“Connecting to the nbn network is not automatic, so I would encourage people to contact their chosen retail broadband provider about the services available in their area and how to sign up.”

The fixed wireless tower for Mount Hunter will service more than 140 premises directly, but is responsible for serving another 1430 premises as a key fibre hub site for other towers in the district.

The Werombi tower will service about 180 premises, while the Theresa Park tower (Werombi East) will service 250 premises.

The nbn rollout has now reached more than 90 per cent of Hume, with 61,647 premises ready for service (as of August 31, 2017).

More than 2200 premises are now able to access fixed wireless technology.
