Mr Taylor said the map was an update on where coverage from fixed wireless towers and mobile phone towers was extending to parts of Boorowa, when fibre would be laid in Boorowa township and when satellite broadband services would be available for the majority of local property owners.

“It’s always easier to see what’s happening when it’s on a map. There is a fast broadband solution for all locations in Hume,” he said.

“For most of Boorowa Shire, satellite will deliver fast broadband. Services on the new satellite launched last month are expected to be available in May next year.

“In Boorowa township, optic fibre will be laid in 2017, allowing 800 premises to connect to fast broadband. It will then be a number of months before connections are available, but I will keep the community closely informed about where things are up to.

“Fixed wireless towers at Mt McDonald, Darbys Falls, Wyangala, Koorawatha and Murringo are already providing internet coverage to residents in parts of the shire.

“I’m asked a lot about the meantime. What do we do while we’re waiting for NBN to arrive?

“My response is that the delivery of the national broadband network is bringing unprecedented competition into telecommunications. The carriers are finally being forced to compete. There are new data packages becoming available, new services such as 4GX internet being activated on towers across the district and 4G small cells on exchanges in smaller villages, all providing fast internet. This is a constantly changing space. The technology is moving fast and the competition is hotting up. All for the benefit of the customer. So I encourage people to check in with their preferred provider to see what’s on offer.”
