Jobactive helps 1270 Hume job seekers into work
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says the Turnbull Government’s jobactive programme has helped more than 1270 Hume job seekers find work in recent months.
“The government’s jobactive programme is about getting more people into jobs – it’s an enormous focus for this government.
“Since July last year we’ve had 1278 job seekers placed in work in Hume which is outstanding news for the region’s economy. As big infrastructure projects wind up around the north of Hume, as the Government’s innovation agenda provides incentives and pares back red tape for small business and entrepreneurs are backed to have a real go, those jobs will keep coming,” he said.
“Of those placed in work, 43.3 per cent were under 29 years of age and 53 per cent had been unemployed for more than 12 months.
“I welcome latest labour force figures showing the national unemployment rate has fallen to 5.8%, with significant falls in unemployment in NSW.”
Mr Taylor said jobactive has always been about delivering outcomes - not just ticking boxes as we saw under Labor’s Job Services Australia.
“Jobactive is all about outcomes, with stronger participation requirements to ensure effective engagement of job seekers and better aligning job seeker obligations with community expectations.
“Part of that is paying employment providers for outcomes, which is a sensible thing to do, but was not part of the previous setup under Labor. Incentives work and the results are starting to come in.”
Mr Taylor said jobactive is a $6.8 billion investment for four years by the Government which includes the National Work Experience Programme, Work for the Dole and $1.2 billion in wage subsidy programmes for employers.
