Government's $50 million Safer Streets commitment: Round 2 now open

Monday, 01 February 2016

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has announced the second round of the Government’s Safer Streets is now open for applications.

“I’m encouraging local government, chambers of commerce and eligible not-for-profit organisations to take up the opportunity to apply for funding under the latest round of the Safer Streets programme,” Mr Taylor said.

“We’ve had terrific success in Hume under the first round of Safer Streets, with CCTV cameras rolled out in central business districts at Goulburn, Cootamundra and Harden, and improved street lighting installed along local cycleways and carparks at Yass.”

“There has been great feedback from small business owners, local government and law enforcement in these areas about how the CCTV cameras and lighting have already helped to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity.”

Mr Taylor said round two was part of the Government’s $50million commitment to the Safer Streets programme. Applications close 2.00pm on 17 February 2016. For more information, go to https://www.ag.gov.au/CrimeAndCorruption/CrimePrevention/Documents/Safer...
