Goulburn kicks goal with oval upgrade
Goulburn residents can now enjoy a brand new sporting pavilion at Seiffert Oval as part of a project to enhance the local Victoria Park precinct.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor, who attended today’s opening, said that demolishing the old pavilion had made way for a new building with an updated kitchen, change rooms, toilets and undercover spectator area.
“This new pavilion will not only provide high quality facilities for our local players but increase opportunities to host visiting teams, boosting sport across the region,” Mr Taylor said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government’s $415,051 investment in sporting infrastructure would also provide an economic boost to the Hume region.
“With each project such as this making use of local suppliers, we’re not only investing in the community’s infrastructure future but also injecting jobs and spending into Goulburn,” Mr McCormack said.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the new Oval Pavilion would encourage the community, particularly women and girls, to participate in more physically engaging events.
“Residents love their sport so it’s important to encourage these healthy habits by providing the appropriate venues – each weekend match or casual kick of footy is not only great for the community but also supports better health outcomes for everybody involved,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Mayor of Goulburn Mulwaree Council, Bob Kirk, said the project would create benefits for cricket, cycling and other users of Seiffert Oval.
“This is a great example of three levels of Government combining to deliver a brilliant outcome for a local community, and I would also like to thank McDonalds and Cricket NSW for their generous contribution,” Cr Kirk said.
The Australian Government invested $415,051 under the Building Better Regions Fund, an $841 million investment designed to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.
The New South Wales Government also contributed $200,000, Goulburn Mulwaree Council $175,052, and Cricket NSW with McDonald’s Facility Grants $40,000.
