Goulburn Hockey wins stronger communities funding
A new walkway covering and refurbished seating will improve facilities at the Goulburn Hockey Complex thanks to a grant from the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP).
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor congratulated the Goulburn Hockey Association on its successful application, saying the $16,842 project would be funded through a 50% contribution of $8421 from the SCP and the remainder by Goulburn Hockey.
President of Goulburn Hockey Association Marc Calvert, President of Goulburn Hockey Association Inc Scott Writer and Goulburn Hockey Association Rep Secretary Kayleen Pagett took Angus on a recent tour of the complex, to show him where improvements will be underway shortly.
Goulburn Hockey Association President Marc Calvert said while the association had several large-scale improvements planned for the complex in coming year, this project would greatly improve spectator amenities, particularly during inclement weather.
“With this grant we will be able to cover the walkway between the existing east and west turf fields, and also refurbish the existing tiered seating, replacing the timber seats with aluminium,” Mr Calvert said.
“The introduction of both men’s and women’s elite hockey teams competing in the ACT Capital League Competition has dramatically increased our spectator numbers,” Mr Calvert said.
Goulburn Hockey was one of 13 grants awarded to small local projects across the Hume electorate from round one of the SCP.
