Golspie Mobile Tower now 'live'
Golspie has received a new Telstra mobile base station as part of federal funding for the Mobile Black Spot Program.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the 40 metre structure on Golspie Road is providing 3G and 4G Telstra mobile coverage, at faster speeds, for the first time in the surrounding region
“This is fantastic news for the Golspie district community and I welcome the great work Telstra has done on this – and the feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive,” Mr Taylor said.
“Expanding coverage to the region will allow the community to keep in contact with family and friends and run their businesses more effectively.”
Resident Chris Croker, who lives about 2km from the tower, said this was “quite a milestone”.
“In 1990 we were still on wind up phones where you rang through to the operator,” the sheep and cattle farmer said.
Welcoming the quicker internet speeds, he says this tower will also make Golspie safer.
“A lot of us work by ourselves with no one around us. If an accident does happen on the farm it is easier to contact the police or help,” he said.
The Black Spot funding will aim to provide connection along roads from Goulburn to Oberon via Taralga and Goulburn to Trunkey Creek via Crookwell.
Telstra will roll out 577 new mobile based stations across rural and regional Australia as part of the $486 million co-investment with the federal and state governments.
