Federal funding to replace Goulburn's Komungla Bridge

Monday, 18 January 2016

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has announced $1.526 million in funding for Goulburn Mulwaree Council under Round Two of the Government’s Bridges Renewal Programme.

“I’m pleased to share the outstanding news the Komungla Bridge on Currawang Road will finally be replaced as a result of the latest round of funding under the Bridges Renewal Programme,” Mr Taylor said.

“This is a terrific outcome for residents along the Currawang Road as this particular crossing has long been an issue for local residents, barely making it through periods of flooding and presenting an unsafe passage for motorists.”

Mr Taylor said this latest funding commitment is on top of over $4 million already committed to Goulburn’s Lansdowne Bridge and Kippilaw Bridge under the first round of the programme.

Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Geoff Kettle praised the Federal Government and the work of Mr Taylor.

“This is more great news for Goulburn Mulwaree and it’s another classic example of Council and the Member for Hume working together for the betterment of Goulburn Mulwaree’s residents and visitors,” he said.

“On behalf of Council and the community, I want to thank Angus for again working co-operatively with us to get funding for this important infrastructure project.”

Mr Taylor said five other bridges in neighbouring local government areas would also be receiving Federal funding, totalling over $3.7 million of infrastructure investment for Hume under this latest round.
