Federal budget commits to Hume infrastructure

Residents and business owners in Hume will have new opportunities for jobs and investment through infrastructure projects commencing in 2017-18.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the Federal Budget was committing infrastructure funding to ensure benefits for generations to come.

Infrastructure highlights of the Budget for Hume include:

  • The Government will establish a new Government owned company charged with ensuring Western Sydney Airport is operational by 2026. Local residents are already being employed on road upgrades around Badgerys Creek with an estimated 9000 direct jobs to be created by the early 2030s.
  • $50 million commitment to Appin Road upgrades - work to commence in 2017-18
  • $53 million commitment to Narellan Road – ongoing in 2017-18
  • $1.233 billion commitment to The Northern Road – ongoing in 2017-18
  • $4.018 million commitment to Camden Valley Way/Argyle Street – completing in 2017-18
  • $4.295 million commitment to Camden Valley Way/Argyle Street Upgrade Stage 2 – completing in 2017-18
  • $2.279 million commitment to Picton Road Rest Area acceleration lanes – ongoing in 2017-18
  • $266,546 commitment to Upper Lachlan’s Devil’s Elbow Corner – ongoing in 2017-18
  • $3.25 million commitment to Lansdowne Bridge at Goulburn – work to commence in 2017-18
  • $478,000 commitment to Boorowa Council- Bennett Springs Bridge Replacement – completing in 2017-18
  • $1.526 million commitment to Komungla Bridge Replacement in Goulburn Mulwaree Shire - completing in 2017-18
  • $750,000 commitment to Abercrombie River Bridge – Goulburn Oberon Road - completing in 2017-18
  • $1 million commitment to Performing Arts Centre for Goulburn region - ongoing in 2017-18
  • $10 million commitment to construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Goulburn - completing in 2017-18
  • $350,000 for the Touched by Olivia playground at Warragamba

Infrastructure investment also includes ongoing funding for capital projects in the Stronger Communities Programme, the Building Better Regions Fund, the Black Spot Programme, Roads to Recovery and the Financial Assistance Grant Programme.

Mr Taylor said whether projects were starting, ongoing or completing, they were generating many hundreds of jobs for Hume.

“I know many people working in the construction sector and supporting businesses will welcome such strong Federal investment in our community infrastructure,” Mr Taylor said.

“This Budget is delivering new growth opportunities for Hume to support our regional economies.”

He added that $22.5 million would be provided for a third round of the successful Stronger Communities Programme in 2017-18 (with $150,000 for each electorate).
