Cowra project will plant 15,000 trees
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has welcomed Federal funding for the planting of 15,000 trees in the broader Cowra area.
Mr Taylor said Round 2 of the Federal Government’s 20 Million Trees Programme would include support for a project to be run by Central Tablelands Local Land Services to rehabilitate and restore native vegetation.
“The idea of this project is to connect native vegetation along the eastern edge of the tablelands in central west NSW with isolated areas of native vegetation in the west of the region. There are many threatened species in these areas.”
Mr Taylor said through the combined work of more than 25 private landholders, Landcare, the NSW Government and local aboriginal land councils, an area of 150 hectares would be planted with more than 15,000 trees which were suited to the local environment.
“Round 2 of the 20 Million Trees Programme closed in September this year. By the end of this current round, we will have planted close to 11 million trees across Australia, with the aim being to plant 20 million trees by 2020.”
He said if groups were interested in applying for any future funding rounds or wanted to keep up to date with the latest information, they could subscribe to the 20 Million Trees mailing list by emailing 20milliontrees@environment.gov.au
