Carbon fibre tankers driving jobs and growth in Hume through innovation

Prime Minister The Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP has praised the innovation of a small Sydney manufacturer building light weight chemical tankers.
The Prime Minister joined company executives and local MPs Russell Matheson and Angus Taylor on a factory tour at Smeaton Grange today in south west Sydney, ahead of the first tankers being exported to Germany.
Innovation is driving jobs and growth. The Turnbull Government is creating an economic environment in which businesses like Omni Tanker Pty Ltd can grow, innovate and employ more Australians.
The company manufactures carbon fibre composite tanks to transport bulk liquids, including corrosive chemicals.
Omni Tanker Managing Director Daniel Rodgers said light weight tanks meant a more efficient transport operation.
“Australian manufacturing is often able to solve problems without being constrained by accepted thinking and methods. By coming at it from a different angle, you can discover a novel solution and sometimes significant technology advances, like we now have with our now patented materials technology.”
Assistant Minister for Cities and Digital Transformation and Member for Hume Angus Taylor said innovation was at the heart of the company’s success.
“Small businesses with incentives to grow and create, will just do it. They need freedom and encouragement to get on and solve real world problems and this is exactly what Daniel and his team have done.”
Member for Macarthur Russell Matheson said the company had grown from four staff in a small shed eight years ago, to now employing 30 workers including tertiary qualified engineers.
“Omni Tanker will keep growing as it builds its export business. All of these staff here today are people from the local area who now have great jobs and careers ahead of them.”
