Hill Top and Colo Vale Village men’s sheds will use funding from the Coalition Government’s National Shed Development Programme to upgrade safety.

A $2749 grant for Hill Top Men’s Shed will go towards the purchase of a defibrillator, First Aid kit/training, test and tag equipment and nail detector.

The 13 members of Colo Vale Village Men’s Shed will use their $1550 grant to invest in dust extraction systems, fittings and accessory kits.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said men’s sheds were helping make happier, healthier communities.

“Men are often the last ones to make their health and wellbeing a priority. It’s imperative that we do what we can to ensure they get support to do this,” Mr Taylor said.

Hill Top Men’s Shed president John Matters said the 11 members of his group would soon have a place to call their own.

“Currently they’re working out of my shed at home but we’re about to move to a site at the church, so this funding will be important to ensure that the new shed is safe to work in,” he said.

Colo Vale Village Men’s Shed coordinator Steve Clarke said dust extraction systems would allow them to work in a more safe environment.

“The guys are tidying up a wheelchair for the local school and we really enjoy making letter boxes and garden planters to sell at the Colo Vale Community Centre Markets,” he said.

The Morrison Government is investing $5.1 million over three years in the national men’s sheds movement.
