Boorowa Preschool receives $50,000 Federal grant
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has congratulated Boorowa Preschool on its successful application for $50,000 in Federal capital works funding.
Mr Taylor said he had made personal representations to the Assistant Minister for Education Sussan Ley to ensure the preschool was eligible for exceptional circumstances categorisation.
“Sussan was happy to look carefully at Boorowa’s case. Boorowa Preschool committee is fully deserving of this funding under the Long Day Care Capital Funding Exceptional Circumstances Grant programme.
“This is a committed group of parents who are well aware of the need to transition existing preschool facilities into long day care. Without local long day care, some parents have been travelling more than 100km to take their children to child care. Of the five adjoining shires – Young, Cowra, Upper Lachlan, Yass Valley and Harden – Boorowa is the only town without a long day care centre.
“The Federal Government wants to support the community as it seeks to extend and modify the existing preschool centre.”
Preschool committee president Sarah Rose said the centre was ecstatic with the news. “This grant will allow Boorowa Preschool community to move forward with our planning and design and engage the services of a suitably qualified architect. The Preschool is extremely grateful to the Australian Government and to our local MP Angus Taylor. This will mean not only more employment for Boorowa, as more women will be able to re-join the workforce knowing their children are well cared for, there may also be more jobs growth at the preschool as demand for childcare grows.”
Mr Taylor said the committee was to be congratulated for its determination in seeing the funding application through to approval.
