Angus Patron of 7th Light Horse Regiment - Menangle Historical Troop
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says it’s an honour to be named Patron and Honorary Trooper of the 7th Light Horse Regiment – Menangle Historical Troop.
Troop President Leonard Carter recently presented Mr Taylor with uniform and name badges to commemorate the occasion.
“It is a great honour to be named as Patron of the 7th Light Horse Regiment – Menangle Historical Troop,” Mr Taylor said.
“The troop was formed so that we all remember the contribution made by the original Regiment.
“I was intrigued to learn that the first Light Horse was established within the Camden area. I’m very proud to honour the memories of the original light horsemen, especially as they descended from this great region.”
The 7th Light Horse Regiment was a mounted infantry regiment of the Australian Army during the First World War.
The Regiment was raised in October 1914, and assigned to the 2nd Light Horse Brigade. Camden West was the first Mounted Light Horse named cavalry troop unit in Australia.
The Light Horse were considered unsuitable for the initial operations at Gallipoli, but were subsequently deployed without their horses to reinforce the infantry.
The Beersheba Commemorative Breakfast at Club Menangle on October 28 will be the first occasion where the Light Horse Memorial Regiment will be attending in a Mounted Colour Party Parade.
“There has not been a Colour Party Parade correctly conducted in accordance to WW1 Military protocol, together with a wreath laying ceremony, since the final parade of the 7th Light Horse Regiment on 7 October 1958,” Mr Carter said.
“Tickets for this event are available at the clubmenangle.com.au website or by calling Erica on (02) 4645 2200.”
