More than 100,000 native trees and shrubs will have been planted across the Hume electorate thanks to funding from the Federal 20 Million Trees Program.

National Tree Day this Sunday 29 July will be another opportunity to help the environment through tree planting and revegetation projects.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the 20 Million Trees program had engaged many parts of the community.

“Through to 2020, we will have funded close to $400,000 in tree planting projects in Hume, big and small, under this one program,” Mr Taylor said.

“Camden Council has used Federal funding to plant out 20,000 trees and shrubs along parts of the Nepean River. 200 White Gums were part of earlier plantings and this is now being replicated at Camden Town Farm from this Sunday, with 2000 trees to start.”

“A more widespread area in the Crookwell region was planted with 25,000 tubestock and seeds to support existing Box Gum and Snow Gum.

“A smaller project known as Joining the dots for Box Gum Woodlands, also funded under the 20 million Trees Program, has supported landowners to plant 4,000 tubestock across the Southern Tablelands.

“These are all important efforts to restore habitat in our region and support threatened species. Congratulations to everyone who has been involved to date and I encourage people to come out to local events this Sunday.”

A single grown tree can absorb up to 20 kilograms of CO2 per year.

Planting at Goulburn Recreation Area will be held from 9am to 12midday on Sunday.

Planting at Camden Town Farm will take place from 9am to 1pm on Sunday, access via Exeter Street.
