Taylor congratulates Cowra's Brumby aircraft expansion into China
17 December 2013
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has congratulated Cowra aircraft manufacturer Brumby Aircraft on the expected expansion of its business into China.
Mr Taylor met with delegates from Brumby, its new Chinese manufacturing partner AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) and Cowra Shire Council representatives including Mayor Bill West at Parliament House earlier this month.
Mr Taylor said a Memorandum of Understanding recently signed between Brumby and AVIC was the kind of partnership the new Coalition Government was keen to support and celebrate.
“Brumby Aircraft is to be congratulated on its ingenuity and initiative, as is Cowra Council for showing great support for a local business with a fixed eye on international trade,” Mr Taylor said.
“If successful, this deal is expected to double production at Brumby’s Cowra base. The company says it will stay local, keep the design and much of the manufacturing work local and boost employment.
“In my maiden speech I highlighted the enormous opportunities for Australian companies in fast growing Asian markets. AVIC is one of the global top 500 companies and specialises in aircraft manufacturing and commercial aviation. Demand for small aircraft in China is set to skyrocket as the Chinese government lifts restrictions on its general aviation airspace.
“This is where we see our trading future - in Asia and particularly in China - and it’s just the sort of opportunity our Government is excited to promote,” Mr Taylor said.
