National engineering closure: First step to find a new buyer
30 October 2013
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has called on stakeholders to work together to try and a find a new buyer for National Engineering at Young after the company’s announced liquidation this week.
“This is a first and necessary step if we want to minimise the impact of this announcement on the community and local economy,” Mr Taylor said.
“I understand employees have been shocked by the news that the company has gone into liquidation. If we can’t find a new buyer, we have to protect the salaries of the 40 employees involved.
“I am pursuing talks with the administrator to understand why the closure has occurred and what options are on the table. This is a terrible outcome for staff and the Young community,” he said.
Mr Taylor said he would be following up on behalf of employees as to how their salaries can be paid. “While I can’t pre-empt the result of a full assessment by administrators, in all likelihood the Federal Government will underpin staff salaries, but this will have to be determined.
“I understand there have been repeat efforts from government at various levels to keep National Engineering viable. This sort of engineering business, like many others around the country, is reliant on a fast flowing pipeline of investment. At a national level, the Government’s focus will be on creating and continuing major infrastructure projects to feed into that pipeline and drive the economy,” he said.
“National Engineering employees should contact my Cowra electorate office on 6341 1106 for any advice or assistance.”
