Switch on of mobile base station at Wombeyan Caves Campground
People staying and travelling through Wombeyan Caves Campground will now have phone service to make calls, browse the internet and stay connected with family and friends.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the new satellite small cell funded by the Federal Government under Round 4 of the Mobile Black Spot Program will provide mobile coverage to the Wombeyan Caves Campground.
“This improved coverage will further unlock the tourism potential for the campground and nature reserve,” Mr Taylor said.
“It will also provide important coverage to an area where there is no existing coverage and provide safety and social benefits all year around to campers and tourists visiting this area.”
“Wombeyan Caves is scenically and historically significant, with nearly 30,000 visitors to the caves every year. By improving mobile phone coverage here we’re encouraging more tourism dollars into the area.”
“This is the fourth base station completed and on air in Hume under Round 4 of the program.”
Other locations that have received a mobile base station under this round include Frogmore, Bungonia and Wayo.
An additional $160 million in new funding for rounds five and six of the program was announced in 2019 to continue to improve phone service for people in Australia’s regions.
