Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has outlined a 58% growth in construction sector businesses in Hume since the Coalition came to government in 2013. Angus video>>
Mr Taylor pointed to figures from the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science showing 3733 construction sector businesses were active in Hume at the end of 2017-18, a jump of 1367 businesses since 2013.
He said construction was by far the fastest growing sector in the electorate.
“In some localities, construction businesses have doubled in number in five years,” Mr Taylor said.
“This is tremendous growth, creating work for tradies, builders, brickies, you name it. While we need to make sure we've got the infrastructure right to support new housing and business construction, there's work out there and that's fantastic to see.
“Great to see the growth. Great to see the new jobs. Great to see the new businesses.”

Mr Taylor said the Coalition was delivering a stronger economy, with the first Budget surplus in more than a decade. He said 95% of jobs created in the past 12 months were full-time and 1.25 million more jobs would be created over the next five years.
