Badgerys Creek sod-turn signals decades of jobs' growth
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has described today’s sod-turn at Badgerys Creek as a signal for decades of jobs’ growth.
“The Federal Government is investing billions of dollars to build Western Sydney Airport and a new city around the airport. The decades of growth will benefit Hume, and northern Hume in particular,” Mr Taylor said.
He said tens of thousands of jobs were expected to be created during and after construction of the new airport and airport city.
“To turn around the massive commute east every morning across Sydney, we need great jobs in the West.
“Already we have global business leaders committing themselves to moving their operations to the Western Sydney Airport region. The momentum will only build from here.”
As a local MP, Mr Taylor said he would continue to talk often with local governments and community leaders about their concerns and priorities about the airport development.
“I believe it’s critical the population growth in south western Sydney does not outstrip creation of jobs and support infrastructure. As the Prime Minister has said today, the Commonwealth and NSW governments are fully committed to making this work.”
From Picton, the airport city will be a 40 minute commute. From the Southern Highlands, it will be an hour.
“There are extraordinary opportunities for already established Hume businesses to grow on the back of the airport investments and for businesses to relocate to our region.”
