Two of Goulburn’s most popular outdoor walking and cycling facilities will receive a $1.35 million funding boost from the Federal Government. Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor announced today that under Round 2 of the Building Better Regions Fund – Infrastructure Projects stream:

• $937,147 will be invested towards the 1.5km extension of the Wollondilly River Walkway (total project cost $1.87 million) and,

• $415,051 will be invested towards the upgrade of Seiffert Oval’s pavilion (total project cost $830,103).

Mr Taylor joined Mayor Bob Kirk and local cycling enthusiasts to look over the two sites.

“This is such great work by council in continuing to secure funding for these community assets,” Mr Taylor said.

“I’m a massive fan of the walkway. I’ve joined the Park Run along here and it’s just a great place for a run or a cycle. The plan I understand is to eventually join the Wollondilly River with Goulburn’s cbd and bring many more users, locals and visitors, to enjoy the amenity.”

Mr Taylor is also a regular user of the bike track at Seiffert Oval, where Federal funding will allow the building of a new pavilion.

“The work to the pavilion will not only enhance the comfort and experience for sporting fans and participants, but preserve the precinct’s history.”

Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk said the Federal Government funding would allow both projects to get underway this year.

“Stage 2 of the River Walkway will include a 1.5km extension and a cantilever bridge that will be a real feature. The pavilion upgrades at Seiffert Oval will mean improved facilities for our cricketers and cyclists,” he said.

Under Round 2 of the Building Better Regions Fund (Infrastructure Projects stream), the Coalition is investing over $200 million in 136 projects - including the upgrade of Goulburn’s Rocky Hill War Memorial Museum and precinct - which received $1.25 million.

A further $200 million was announced in the 2018-19 Budget for a third round of the Building Better Regions Fund.

Shannon Apps and Elsie Apps (9) who regularly use the Seiffert Oval cycling track have welcomed news of the pavilion upgrades. They were also joined on Monday by community committee representative Dale Godber, who has been lobbying for redevelopment of the oval facilities.
