Desert Rose comes to the Southern Tablelands
The Australian Government Mobile Service Centre ‘Desert Rose’ will be in Boorowa and Crookwell next week to give local people easy access to essential government payments and services.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the Mobile Service Centre will visit:
- Boorowa on Tuesday, November 15, from 9.30am to 3.30pm, near Boorowa Court House on Marsden Street
- Crookwell on Wednesday, November 16, from 9am to 3pm, near the old Visitor Information Centre on Spring Street
“The Mobile Service Centre will offer Centrelink and Medicare payments and services, Child Support information and hearing health checks,” Mr Taylor said.
“When it last visited, staff helped a customer transfer to Age Pension online with myGov, and also found he was eligible for a referral to Australian Hearing after having a hearing health check on board.
“A staff member from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will also be available to assist individuals and small business taxpayers with advice and information about tax and superannuation.”
Mr Taylor said the new vehicle demonstrated the government’s ongoing commitment to access to government services for all Australians, no matter where they live.
During the past financial year the Government's current fleet visited 381 towns and helped over 8900 people with Centrelink, Medicare and other critical services.
“Desert Rose is a truck set up as an office, custom-built with the same technology as any other Service Centre that delivers Medicare or Centrelink payments and services, including access to self-service facilities,” Mr Taylor said.
“It is wheelchair accessible and has a soundproof room where staff can conduct free hearing health checks.”
