Upper Lachlan, Penrith City share in Roads to Recovery funds
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says Upper Lachlan Shire and Penrith City councils are sharing in $560,800 in latest Roads to Recovery payments to assist with local road construction and maintenance in the electorate.
“This is the Australian Government making good on election promises by continuing to support programmes that deliver funding exactly where it’s needed based on local knowledge,” Mr Taylor said.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council and Penrith City Council both have significant road networks to manage.
Under the August 16 Hume Roads to Recovery payments, Upper Lachlan Shire received $365,836 and Penrith City $194,964.
“Roads to Recovery funding is used to upgrade roads chosen by councils, ensuring that local knowledge selects the best local road projects,” Mr Taylor said.
“Councils across the country have so far used Roads to Recovery funding to repair and upgrade more than 53,500 road sites.”
The 2016 Budget extended the Roads to Recovery Programme, and provided an additional $50 million per annum from 2019-20 onwards, bringing the annual commitment to $400 million.
“The Australian Government will distribute $3.2 billion to councils nationwide between 2014–15 and 2018–19 under the Roads to Recovery Programme to support maintenance of the nation’s local road network and improve road safety,” Mr Taylor said.
