More time with our best friends: Picton's new off leash area

Friday, 13 May 2016

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has congratulated Wollondilly Shire Council on successfully applying for $13,166 under the Stronger Communities Programme for the development of a companion animals off leash area at Picton Sportsground.

Mr Taylor visited the recently-completed site with Wollondilly Shire Council’s Mayor Cr Simon Landow.

“We all need more time with our best friends, our pooches. The off leash site is about enhancing quality of life and environment. It provides a safe recreational space for residents to spend more time with their dogs,” Mr Taylor said.

“The aim of the Stronger Communities Programme is to improve community participation through the funding of small capital projects.

“I am pleased to announce that total funding of up to $13,166 has been approved under Round 2 of the Stronger Communities Programme. Wollondilly Shire Council will be funding the balance of the project.

“The project will include construction of a shelter, water tank and fencing.”

Cr Landow said the facility was an important component of Wollondilly Shire’s recreation and open space strategy.

The fenced area includes water availability and bench seats. It will have access to a proposed footbridge and connecting bike track, already popular with dog owners.
