Industry Skills Fund helps small business grow in Hume
Wednesday, 27 April 2016
Member for Hume Angus Taylor has announced the funding of training and support services for a Goulburn electrical business as part of the Turnbull Government’s commitment to jobs and the economy through its Industry Skills Fund (ISF).
Goulburn-based electrical contractor John Hutchins Electrical successfully applied for funding under the ISF programme as the business expands its services to include the installation of stand-alone battery storage solar units.
The ISF provides Australian businesses with access to training and support services so they are better placed to succeed in a rapidly changing economy.
The fund will support John Hutchins Electrical staff train in the specialist installation of the solar power battery units and help make that expansion possible.
Mr Taylor has congratulated Mr Hutchins for his successful ISF application.
“The Turnbull Government recognises that having a skilled, well-trained workforce is crucial for businesses like John Hutchins Electrical and it's why we’re working in partnership with businesses in Hume through measures like the Industry Skills Fund,” he said.
“This business is a shining example of local enterprises skilling up to take advantage of expansion opportunities, and that is a great thing for Hume and the broader economy.”
Mr Hutchins, who employs one other staff member, said the ISF assistance will help cover 70 per cent of the cost of the training course.
He says it is a good practical initiative which helps him stay up to date with the latest training programs, particularly ones which will add a new dimension to his business.
The ISF programme targets assistance to small and medium businesses, providing advice to identify training opportunities and training grants.
