Anzac Day: heart and soul of the nation

Thursday, 21 April 2016

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says Anzac Day is “a special day for the heart and soul of our nation”.

“It is a day on which we remember those who have served and lost their lives or suffered for us,” he said.

“It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many to ensure that the freedoms we often take for granted persevere through the generations.

“For many, many Australian families Anzac Day has strong resonance.

“In our families Louise and I had grandfathers who served on the Western Front in World War I, in New Guinea during World War II, and another who was captured on the Burma Railway. Luckily for us, our three grandfathers came home, but they had brothers and cousins who did not.”

Mr Taylor will spend this year’s Anzac Day, Monday 25 April, in Wollondilly Shire and Goulburn.

He will attend Picton Anzac Day Committee’s Parade and Service, and later, the Bargo Commemoration Service and lunch organised by the Picton-Thirlmere-Bargo RSL Sub-branch.

Mr Taylor will then be at Goulburn for a special Evening Service on iconic Rocky Hill.

“I look forward to sharing this special day with constituents in the Wollondilly Shire and Goulburn,” Mr Taylor said.

The Picton Anzac Day Parade starts at 6.45am (participants to assemble in the carpark behind Picton Hotel at 6.30am) followed by the Service at 7am in Picton Memorial Park.

Bargo’s Anzac Day Commemoration Service and lunch starts at 11am at Bargo Sports Club.

The evening service at Goulburn’s Rocky Hill Memorial starts at 5.30pm and will feature music by the Goulburn Choir Mob.
