Labor's only plan is to tax, spend and shrink: Taylor

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says Labor’s only plan is to ‘tax, spend and shrink’ the economy.  Angus Taylor speaking in parliament >>

Speaking in parliament this week Mr Taylor said the Labor party was intent on making aspirational Australians worse off.

“They have a plan that thwarts opportunities for Australians who want to have a go. Labor crows that they are going to spend $100 billion more in the economy  – well I can tell ordinary Australians, and the treasurer has spelt this out clearly again this week, for every extra dollar of tax and spend, the economy shrinks by forty cents.

“This is their plan. At the top of Labor’s list of taxes are negative gearing and capital gains – and both will strip income and aspiration from everyday Australians. A party that wants to destroy the wealth of anyone wanting to have a go is a party that doesn’t deserve to be in government.

“At the heart of the Government’s plan are innovation, productivity and access to fast growing markets. And particularly innovation – in the private sector and in the public sector - delivers productivity because it delivers more with less.

“Another big driver of productivity is investment and what we have seen under a Coalition government is a switch from mining investment to non-mining investment.

“Finally and right at the centre of our plan for economic growth is free trade. The best opportunity for improved terms of trade, the best opportunity for rising incomes, is free trade. It provides the ability for our country to specialise in what it does best. In markets like cattle, and dairy, Australians are doing what they do best in selling products and services to the world.

“Unlike Labor, the Government has a plan for higher wages, higher incomes, more wealth creation and more opportunity for every Australian.”
