Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the grants would be managed locally by South East, Central West and Central Tablelands Local Land Services.
“Local Land Services networks are supporting local groups to carry out important on-ground works to address some of the crucial environmental issues facing the region,” Mr Taylor said.
He said the funding would support regional Landcare groups to carry out a range of local activities to help raise the community’s awareness of biodiversity, vegetation, cultural heritage, threatened species and sustainable agriculture, while also increasing the number of community members taking part in activities that help protect their local environment.
“There are a number of Landcare organisations across Hume that are receiving funding, including Weddin, Jerrawa, Boorowa and Middle Arm Landcare Groups, Upper Lachlan Catchment Committee, Tablelands Farming Systems, Kangara Boyd Link Partnership and Kosciusko to Coast Incorporated.
“South East, Central West and Central Tablelands Local Land Services all have a proven record in managing projects that deliver good environmental outcomes,” Mr Taylor said.
Video Transcript: “What’s great about Landcare is it’s grass roots, it’s community based and it’s farmers working with each other and those peer based networks we know have always been enormously important in rural areas and in agriculture. Landcare really is a wonderful example of how that can work and it’s very important that we continue to support it in the future as we have in the past.”
