Wage subsidies for employers under jobactive programme

Thursday, 28 January 2016

Businesses are being encouraged to explore wage subsidies on offer for employing young jobseekers under the Federal Government’s jobactive programme. Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said jobactive was about helping local people to become work ready.

“There are many incentives in place for businesses to take on a new employee. Part of jobactive is a new $1.2 billion wage subsidy initiative, assisting employers with the upfront costs of hiring and training new staff.

“Employers will be able to receive a wage subsidy from the day an eligible job seeker starts in a job - and the subsidy can be paid on a fortnightly basis.

“This is specifically to encourage employers to think about taking on a new staff member. That’s what we want - more confidence, more job creation.”

Mr Taylor said jobactive services were provided by a number of employment organisations in towns across Hume.

“I’ll be working closely with local providers to get more young people and the long term unemployed into meaningful work.”
