Harden "Greener Grainbelt" project will plant 17,500 trees

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has welcomed Federal funding for the planting of 17,500 trees in the Harden Murrumburrah area.

Mr Taylor said Round 2 of the Federal Government’s 20 Million Trees Programme would include support for a “Greener Grainbelt” project to be run by Harden Murrumburrah Landcare Group.

“The idea of this project is to continue revegetation across the grainbelt, restoring and rehabilitating habitat, by planting 17,500 trees across about 70 hectares.”

Mr Taylor said Harden Murrumburrah Landcare Group had identified low levels of remnant vegetation across Harden Shire and the 20 Million Trees project would help remediate sites affected by soil erosion and link existing plantings with older plantings.

“Round 2 of the 20 Million Trees Programme closed in September this year. By the end of this current round, we will have planted close to 11 million trees across Australia, with the aim being to plant 20 million trees by 2020.”

He said if groups were interested in applying for any future funding rounds or wanted to keep up to date with the latest information, they could subscribe to the 20 Million Trees mailing list by emailing 20milliontrees@environment.gov.au
