Angus Taylor welcomes PM's National Security Statement
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says national security is front of mind for many Australians in the wake of the Paris attacks. He welcomed the Prime Minister’s national security statement to parliament this week, as an important clarification of priorities.
“While most of us go about our normal lives, we can’t help but be concerned when we see atrocities being committed overseas.
“As the Prime Minister has done this week, we need to outline how we defend ourselves against the threat of terror and what it is we are defending.”
Transcript: “I think the really important message that he sent is that we need to be calm and strategic about how we deal with this and I fully endorse that sentiment. This is a very serious threat to us, to western countries and to the values and freedoms that we hold dearly to us. And it is absolutely critical that we take a very calm and very strategic approach to dealing with it.
One of the key things for me is to remember here that these people completely reject our way of life, the freedoms, values and beliefs that are central to what has made us a successful and prosperous country and that is true not just for Australia but for many other countries.
We cannot tolerate these people and we must do everything we can to ensure that we beat them and I’m confident that we will.”
