Aviagen opens in Goulburn, bringing more jobs
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has officially opened the new Aviagen poultry farm near Goulburn which will bring more than 50 jobs to the area.
Aviagen Australia currently operates five farms on a 650-acre block, 20 kilometres from Goulburn on the Braidwood Rd, employing 32 people. The company also has an administration office in Goulburn and is in the process of developing a hatchery in Tait Street to create up to 20 more jobs.
“If you want to build up a region, the key is to bring great businesses and great people into the area. They will create the jobs and everything else flows from that. The future of our region depends on businesses like Aviagen wanting to stay here and hopefully wanting to grow here, so this is very exciting for me,” Mr Taylor said.
He said Aviagen had a strong history of investing in rural communities, not only through the acquisition of land and construction of production facilities, but also through hiring and training local people.
Aviagen Australia Production Manager Grant White said the company was delighted with progress on the production unit, the location at Goulburn which was convenient to Sydney, as well as strong interest in jobs from the local community.
“Angus has provided an extraordinary amount of support with council in the development of this project and his ongoing guidance and assistance has been greatly appreciated. The project has been a success due to the outstanding efforts from all involved,” Mr White said.
