Funding for Cowra's unique wartime memorabilia collection
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has announced funding toward the Cowra RSL Sub-Branch’s memorabilia display at the Club.
“Cowra RSL Sub-Branch has received $3,000 in funding under the latest round of the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service grants programme to fund installation of three new glass cabinets to house its growing memorabilia collection,” Mr Taylor said.
“I was able to visit the Cowra RSL’s memorabilia display recently and it really is an impressive collection of military relics and uniforms, as well as local honour rolls. Such a display is important in understanding the circumstances experienced by those who have served for our nation.”
Cowra RSL Sub-Branch Trustee and Grants Coordinator Frank Bridges said the funding would help the Sub-Branch to build on its existing collection. “We are an active Sub-Branch with limited funds so the grant is certainly appreciated. Some of the local schools have indicated their interest in viewing the memorabilia ahead of the Anzac Centenary next year. Everyone who has seen the display has commented on how great it is. Bob Dooley, President of the Sub-Branch, has done a lot of work on the provenance of the items,” he said.
Mr Taylor said Cowra RSL Sub-Branch was one of 68 recipients in the latest round of Saluting Their Service grants, with more than $178,000 allocated to community and ex-service organisations around Australia. He said the programme was to assist communities to commemorate those who have served and continue to serve our nation.
“It is a rolling funding programme, with applications open to community organisations for activities such as restoration of wartime memorabilia, establishment of commemorative plaques and the upgrading of local honour rolls.”
