I got to know Gavin over recent years, and I got to know him as an incredibly decent, visionary, caring and passionate individual and leader.

He was a gem, because he was able to lead and inspire others, as few can. His primary motivation was to make a difference to the world around him. He sought to have an impact by championing success and excellence in indigenous communities – an aspiration that we talked about many times, and an aspiration that was embodied in the Deadlies, in Vibe and in the rest of his work.

Great social entrepeneurs leave a legacy and Gavin’s legacy will loom large. His simple motivating idea – that we should celebrate indigenous success – will live on well beyond his life.

Goulburn, Indigenous Australia, indeed all of Australia, will mourn him and miss him.
