$60,000 Federal Grant for Thirlmere RSL Hall
23 June 2014
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has congratulated the Picton-Thirlmere-Bargo RSL Sub Branch on its successful application for funding under the Veteran and Community Grants Program.
Mr Taylor said $60,750 had been allocated to the Sub Branch for the upgrading of the Thirlmere RSL Hall roof. The money was received by the Sub Branch late last week.
“I congratulate Sub Branch members on their continuing dedication to this project. I understand roof trusses and frames have been ordered and work to rebuild the existing roof will be underway in a couple of months,” Mr Taylor said.
“Celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, the Sub Branch is going from strength to strength. Its membership has tripled over the past four years and new members are signing up who have served in recent conflicts. This organisation is strong and relevant to the Wollondilly community.”
President of the RSL Sub Branch Tim Bennett-Smith said the building improvements were only achievable because of the funding received from the Federal Government’s Veteran and Community Grants Program.
“The older members of our Sub Branch are thrilled to see their hard work over the past 50 years not being lost but moving forward”.
Mr Taylor said the commitment and hard work of Picton-Thirlmere-Bargo RSL Sub Branch ensured veterans and their families continued to receive services, support and opportunities locally.
