Taylor welcomes release of Badgerys Creek EIS
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the northern parts of the electorate were poised for take-off following the release of planning documents for Sydney’s second airport.
“This development will bring huge benefits for Hume, particularly Wollondilly and Wingecarribee, which are ideally positioned to take advantage of the jobs boom,” he said.
“Remember, the distance from Badgerys Creek to Oakdale and Picton is just over 40km. Whether travelling to the airport for travel or for work, it’s a comfortable commute.”
Mr Taylor said the new airport would create tens of thousands of jobs through the construction phase and during operation.
"As a full-service international airport, it will be a business and tourism hub, creating long-term jobs for the region,” Mr Taylor said.
“But it also presents growth opportunities for Hume, with people moving out of Sydney and indeed from across the state to chase the jobs. Airports generate more jobs during operation than in construction. As the number of passengers at airports grow, so too do the employment opportunities.”
He said members of the public were invited to comment on the draft Airport Plan and draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) up until December 18.
“The Government is committed to a full and frank assessment of environmental, social and economic impacts so that the proposed airport can deliver the best outcomes for communities in western Sydney and beyond. Community information sessions are being held throughout late October and November.
“I encourage residents to visit www.westernsydneyairport.gov.au for more details on the development and on information meetings and to get in touch if they have any concerns.”
