Remembrance Day 2015
Remembrance Day 2015 will close an important year of WW1 commemoration.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor praised local communities for their strong support of milestone events.
“I haven’t witnessed before the depths of emotion that I have at commemorative events this Anzac centenary year.
“We have united out of respect for a bravery and sacrifice many of us will never know.
“From gunfire salutes, to the planting of living memorials, from exhibitions of memorabilia and letters home from the troops, to the re-enactment of the Kangaroo recruitment march, we have held some finely fitting tributes.”
Mr Taylor thanked teachers and school staff at all local schools who ensured tradition was also followed on Remembrance Day.
“Schools across Hume will have stopped for a minute’s silence to allow children to understand the significance of this day, when all fighting stopped at 11.00am on the 11th of November 1918. It was 97 years ago that the Armistice ended the First World War. A special thanks to our local schools for keeping tradition alive.
“Lest We Forget.”
