NBN optic fibre will be rolled out in the city of Goulburn from early December this year, the first town centre in Hume to receive fibre to the node as part of the ongoing National Broadband Network build. Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said 9800 premises would be able to access NBN fast broadband when the Goulburn city area was connected.

“I’m often looking at the NBN Co website and if you take a look now, http://www.nbnco.com.au, the Goulburn area is lit up green, indicating Build Preparation is underway. We’re green for go at Goulburn,” he said.

“The fixed line NBN is one part of the broadband solution for the Goulburn Mulwaree area. Fixed wireless towers will be located at Marulan, Tallong and Wingello, to connect a potential 800 premises to the NBN.”

Mr Taylor said NBN Co had announced its 3 year rollout plan for fast broadband and there was now clarity for all communities in his electorate. He said the NBN fixed line and fixed wireless rollout would deliver access to fast broadband to 42,000 premises (businesses and homes) in Hume in the next three years.

Mr Taylor said in areas where the fixed line and fixed wireless networks were unable to provide coverage, satellite broadband would deliver internet speeds of up to 25 megabits per second, and 4G and 4GX technology was also being activated.

“Satellite broadband is very fast and reliable and, unlike Labor, we’ll be providing enough capacity for regional users. We’ve just successfully launched the first of two new NBN satellites, with satellite connections expected to be available from May next year. Fast broadband is on its way to all of Hume,” Mr Taylor said.

He said at Tirrannaville and in parts of Goulburn, Telstra has already activated 4GX capacity, to deliver fast internet coverage for nearby residents.
