Goulburn small business spending up with Budget support

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has welcomed news of Goulburn small businesses spending up on the back of Federal Budget support.

Mr Taylor said business had acted quickly, particularly in reference to accelerated depreciation for items under $20,000.

Goulburn Plumbing employs seven staff, including two apprentices. Co-owner Dean Thompson said the company had already taken advantage of the tax incentive by adding a new ute to the vehicle fleet last financial year.

“Tradesmen are always buying new tools and equipment, but when there’s an extra incentive it makes you think about it a bit more. There’s plenty of work for tradies in Goulburn at the moment.”

Bison Group Goulburn which produces trays and canopies for service vehicles has reported a significant increase in business turnover since the Budget.

“The increase in interest and orders means the business will be putting on more staff to cope with the demand. My suppliers are telling me ‘this is a good, smart budget for small business’,” said Bison Group Goulburn Director Stan Eagle.

Angus Taylor said local retailers had reported larger items had been selling particularly well.

Chris Weekes Motor Cycles of Goulburn said they had experienced a greater than 50% increase in sales of quad and ag bikes on the same time last year.

“This is just what we wanted small businesses to do. In the past few weeks the rush has been on to invest before the end of financial year and make the most of immediate depreciation in the new tax year,” Mr Taylor said.

“These are all good stories, not only for Hume but for regional Australia. We know only too well small businesses hold the key to re-energising our economy and creating wealth and jobs for our local communities.”
