Cootamundra businesses applaud Budget small business support
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has heard strong support from Cootamundra businesses this week on Budget initiatives for small business.
At a street stall outside the Cootamundra Post Office on Monday, Mr Taylor met and spoke with local business people, as well as visiting the Pickled Pantry cafe and the Cootamundra abattoir, Manildra Meats.
“It was great to be at Cootamundra and to hear how positively the Budget has been received. There were a number of welcome comments about the instant asset write off and accelerated depreciation,” Angus Taylor said.
“Six to eight weeks ago farmers in my electorate were saying, 'If you can give me an instant asset write-off on silos or water investments, I will go for it' - and that is exactly what we have delivered.
“The Budget is having an immediate positive impact on small businesses which is exciting for me, as I am someone who has always believed in the power of small businesses to create jobs, to invest and to support our prosperity.”
Mr Taylor said the government's Growing Jobs and Small Businesses package was about workable, practical measures. “Included is a tax cut of 1.5 per cent for incorporated small businesses with annual turnover of up to $2 million, while unincorporated small businesses will get a five per cent tax discount of up to a $1,000 a year. What is having an immediate impact is that small businesses can now claim a tax deduction for each and every asset purchase up to $20,000.”
On a tour of Manildra Meats, Mr Taylor said creating the right environment for Cootamundra to grow and prosper was the firm focus of Budget 2015.
While in town, he also met with Cootamundra Mayor Jim Slattery and General Manager Ken Trethewey to talk about the Safer Streets CCTV camera roll out in Cootamundra, and other programmes such as the National Stronger Regions Fund, Green Army Programme and Work for the Dole programme. “I look forward to working with council and the Cootamundra community on great local projects which may suit these funding opportunities,” he said.
